What is SLU-PP-332?
SLU-PP-332 is a novel small molecule that functions as an agonist of estrogen-related receptors (ERRs), a family of nuclear receptors implicated in the regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative metabolism. In preclinical studies involving diet-induced obese (DIO) mice, administration of SLU-PP-332 resulted in significant reductions in body weight independent of changes in caloric intake or physical activity. These findings suggest that the compound exerts its effects through the modulation of energy homeostasis and metabolic gene expression, rather than appetite suppression.
In addition to its metabolic effects, SLU-PP-332 significantly enhanced exercise capacity in murine models, with treated animals demonstrating a 70% increase in endurance time and a 45% increase in distance covered during treadmill performance assays. These improvements are consistent with the transcriptional activation of pathways associated with endurance training adaptations. While the compound remains in early stages of development, its dual effects on metabolic regulation and physical performance suggest potential therapeutic applications in metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and age-related sarcopenia. Further studies are warranted to evaluate safety, efficacy, and translational relevance in human subjects.
