What is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a stabilized growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analogue that stimulates pituitary GH secretion and increases circulating insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Its structure includes a hexenoyl-modified 44-amino acid sequence, enhancing plasma stability (Clemmons et al. 2017).

In research settings, tesamorelin significantly increased visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue density over 26 weeks, independent of reductions in fat volume, suggesting improvements in adipocyte composition and adipose tissue quality. These effects correlated with elevated adiponectin and improved lipid profiles (Lake et al. 2022).

Additionally, tesamorelin enhanced skeletal muscle quality and area across multiple trunk muscle groups, with increases observed in both total and lean muscle compartments. These changes were partly independent of VAT reduction and linked to IGF-1 activity (Adrian et al. 2018).
