Information for MOTS-c
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide translated in the cytoplasm and detected across various tissues and plasma, indicating both intracellular and systemic activity (Lee et al. 2015; Lee et al. 2016). It modulates metabolic processes by targeting the folate methionine cycle and activating AMPK, and under stress, translocates to the nucleus to influence gene expression related to antioxidant and stress responses (Wan et al. 2023).
